MANKATO, MINN. — The cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use, and there are huge untapped energy-saving opportunities in our buildings. But each building is different, with varying strategies for reducing the impact of energy costs on the bottom line. Exploring these strategies and helping governments and schools move forward with improvements in the focus of an upcoming workshop.

The Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) are inviting public building managers, facilities directors, elected officials, municipal staff, and anyone interested in saving money by saving energy in public buildings to attend a free hands-on assistance session Thursday, November 1st at Minnesota State University, Mankato. This half-day workshop titled “Capturing Savings from Public Building Energy Efficiency: Benchmarking, Financing & Getting your Project Done” from 9:30am-12:45pm in Centennial Union Room 245.

“This session is designed to help municipalities and schools get up-to-speed on how to use existing tools and resources to plan and implement an energy saving project,” shared Chris Meyer, Southeast Coordinator with the Clean Energy Resource Teams. “Representatives of state agencies and organizations will share information about building energy benchmarking, energy assessments, and project financing. In addition, attendees will hear the story of Minnesota State Mankato’s Climate Action Plan and the Guaranteed Energy Savings effort spearheaded by Facilities Management that is the linchpin of the plan.”

Tour: There will also be a tour of the University Dining Center to see projects including energy efficiency lighting, daylighting, and composting following the speakers.

Assistance: The last hour of the session is geared toward providing attendees with one-on-one assistance and guidance about how to move forward. Participants should come with questions and challenges for our experts.
